Dear Friends, Below we have listed various articles which reflect our mission and vision for creating a culture of engaged young people, helping to develop strong vibrant communities led by inspired and passionate leaders, and sharing a Jewish Torah ethic that is tolerant, relevant, and meaningful. We are proud to have sent 141 students on Service Learning Missions over Winter Break, spanning three continents, and five countries. We have seen time and again, that the more opportunities students have to see and experience how they can be agents of change, the better the chance they will recognize their capacity to assume positions of professional and communal leadership in the future. We look forward to seeing great things from these students and the many others who participate in all of our different leadership programs. We continue to take pride in our Shabbat Table Discussion series that is growing in distribution and readership. We hope that you and your family are using them to enrich your Shabbat Table conversations. Rabbi Kenneth Brander The David Mitzner Dean Yeshiva University Center for the Jewish Future News from the CJF  Coast to Coast and Around the Globe Students Explore Social Justice on CJF Missions to Ukraine, Central America, Israel and the West Coast Whether building libraries in the Nicaraguan heat or renovating a youth center in the cold of Kharkov, Ukraine, Yeshiva University students were hard at work during the winter intersession participating in Center for the Jewish Future (CJF) programs around the world. Comprised of seven service-learning missions across Europe, Israel, Central America and the United States, the programs ran from January 12-22 and involved 140 undergraduates. Click for Full Article Puah Institute Course at Yeshiva University As former rabbi of South Florida’s Boca Raton Synagogue, Rabbi Kenneth Brander would regularly field questions from couples struggling with fertility issues. “I didn’t know how to answer these difficult questions,” said Brander, who currently serves as David Mitzner Dean of Yeshiva University’s Center for the Jewish Future (CJF). After taking a sabbatical and studying at the Puah Institute (Machon Puah)—Israel’s renowned institute of fertility and medicine in accordance with halacha [Jewish law]— Brander realized just how important it was for young rabbis to be trained in this emerging field. Rabbi Kenneth Brander The David Mitzner Dean Yeshiva University Center for the Jewish Future News from the CJF Student-Run Medical Ethics Conference Explores Jewish Perspectives on Public Health Bright and early on the Sunday morning of November 6, an eager crowd braved New York City Marathon traffic to attend the Yeshiva University Student Medical Ethics Society’s (MES) sixth annual conference in Lamport Auditorium on the Wilf Campus. Click for Full Article Click here for audio recordings of the conference (coming soon) Welcome South Africa to the Yeshiva University To-Go Community For the first time, South Africa has joined the To-Go community. 20,000 Sukkot To-Go 5772 were printed this year by Mizrachi South Africa. Both the Rosh Hashana To-Go 5772 and Sukkot To-Go 5772 were distributed worldwide before the holidays. Over 20,000 of each were printed and sent to over 200 requested locations in the United States, Israel, United Kingdom, and Canada. For the first time, South Africa has also printed our Sukkot To-Go journal. They distributed an astounding 20,000 copies to the South African Jewish community. Click for Full Article Yeshiva University’s Blanche and Aaron Schreiber Torah Tours Enrich Holiday Celebration in 81 Communities Across North America and United Kingdom “My friends ask me why we keep going back to Merrick,” shared Josh Botwinick, a YU Junior, as he addressed Congregation Ohav Sholom in Merrick, Long Island in his sermon on Parshat Bereishit. “I tell them that I can’t really explain it. This month, the 2011-2012 Kohelet Fellowships Program launched with five regional orientation programs. 650 parents participated in the orientation events. The events were held in Manhattan, Memphis, Long Island, Philadelphia, and Cherry Hill, NJ. Click for Full Article Rebbetzin Yarchei Kallah Attracts Rebbetzins From Across the Globe The Rebbetzin Esther Rosenblatt Yarchei Kallah for Rebbetzins is scheduled to take place on Monday and Tuesday, November 14th and 15th at Keter Torah in Teaneck, N.J. The family of Rebbetzin Rosenblatt has very generously dedicated this program in her memory for five years. The purpose of the conference is to express appreciation to the rebbetzins, provide a forum for them to discuss rebbetzin-related subjects, offer them new skills, shiurim and the opportunity to network with other rebbetzins.
